Trade Rx reads this week’s buy-low and sell-high columns, checks every name against usage and the official injury reports, then picks five players to buy and five to sell. This week we read FantasyPros’ buy-low and sell-high panel, FantasyPros’ early trade targets, Pro Football Network, Fantasy Six Pack and the free section of 4for4.
Calls are built for half-PPR, with notes where PPR changes the answer. Each player gets a suggested trade price, which is a starting point for an offer, not a rule. Buffalo, Jacksonville, the Chargers and Washington are on bye, per Pro Football Reference. New England plays at Chicago tonight at 5:15 p.m. Pacific, according to Patriots.com, so any deal involving a Patriot or a Bear has to close before then.
Buy Low
1. Woody Marks, RB, Houston Texans
Week 7: vs. NYG | Price: Tony Pollard or Jacory Croskey-Merritt
Symptoms: Marks ran 15 times for 56 yards and caught two passes for 25 yards against Jacksonville, with no touchdown, according to Pro Football Network. Neither of his two rushing touchdowns came in his two busiest games.
Diagnosis: David Montgomery hurt his groin in Week 5, and DeMeco Ryans called him week to week, per The Fantasy Footballers’ news desk. Marks played 56 of 66 snaps in the Week 5 game Montgomery left. Montgomery did not practice Wednesday, according to the Texans’ injury report, and Marks is not on it. Aaron St Denis notes in the FantasyPros panel that his carry share and catches are growing while his touchdowns lag.
Consensus check: Backed by FantasyPros’ St Denis and Pro Football Network.
Prescription: St Denis’s price of Pollard or Croskey-Merritt is fair now. The risk is Montgomery’s return, so buy Marks as a starter through Houston’s Week 8 bye, not as a season-long RB1. He gains a little in PPR.
2. Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets
Week 7: vs. MIA | Price: George Pickens or a similar WR2
Symptoms: Wilson caught four passes for 44 yards at New England while playing 98% of the snaps, per Jay Henry Ocho in the FantasyPros panel.
Diagnosis: Ryan Linkletter, in the same FantasyPros column, has him at a 28.6% target share and about 37% of the Jets’ air yards, with 35 catches for 418 yards and three touchdowns on 48 targets. He is not on the Jets’ Wednesday injury report. Omar Cooper Jr., our No. 2 add in Free Agent Triage, is the one new threat to Wilson’s share.
Consensus check: Backed by two FantasyPros panelists, Ocho and Linkletter.
Prescription: Linkletter suggests Pickens or Tee Higgins. We bought Higgins last week, so offer a different WR2. Wilson is worth more in PPR.
3. Nico Collins, WR, Houston Texans
Week 7: vs. NYG | Price: Bucky Irving or Bhayshul Tuten
Symptoms: Collins has back-to-back WR34 finishes in PPR, with eight catches for 130 yards and no touchdowns over those two games, according to Wolf Trelles-Heard in the FantasyPros panel. Houston also added Marvin Harrison Jr., and Tank Dell is healthy.
Diagnosis: Trelles-Heard still has him 15th among receivers at 2.67 yards per route run. Collins was limited Wednesday with a rest day, not an injury, per the Texans’ report.
Consensus check: Split. Trelles-Heard and Jeremy Shulman of Fantasy Football Universe say buy. Muntradamus of Beast Dome says sell while Collins still has star value.
Prescription: Houston is off in Week 8, so his manager is looking at one more game before a week of zeros. Shulman offers Jaylen Warren or Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty is our top sell below, so that is the trade to try first.
4. Breece Hall, RB, New York Jets
Week 7: vs. MIA | Price: Braelon Allen plus a bench piece
Symptoms: Hall has missed three straight games with a quad injury and did not practice Wednesday, per the Jets’ injury report.
Diagnosis: Aaron Glenn called Hall week to week before each of the last three games and did not use that label this week, according to RotoWire. Hall is still considered available for Sunday and is expected to take back the starting job when healthy.
Consensus check: Thin. Fantasy Six Pack is the column that lists him, and it lists Allen as a sell.
Prescription: We sold Allen last week for the same reason. If you own Allen, offer him for Hall. If Hall is ruled out Friday, the price drops again and you can wait a week.
5. Drake London, WR, Atlanta Falcons
Week 7: vs. SF | Price: a WR2 plus a bench piece
Symptoms: London has 550 receiving yards through six games and no touchdowns, according to Pro Football Network. He caught four of 10 targets for 62 yards against Chicago.
Diagnosis: Pro Football Network counts five straight games over 50 yards. He drew 10 targets against Chicago, and that kind of volume tends to produce touchdowns. He is not on the Falcons’ Wednesday report, per 49ers Webzone.
Consensus check: Thin. Pro Football Network is the only column we read that lists him.
Prescription: We said to hold London in Week 4. The touchdowns still haven’t come, which is why his manager might sell now. He is worth more in PPR.
Sell High
1. Ashton Jeanty, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Week 7: vs. LAR | Target return: Chase Brown or Zay Flowers
Symptoms: Jeanty scored against Buffalo, which keeps his name value high.
Diagnosis: He ran 10 times for 22 yards in that game and caught four passes for 36, while Mike Washington Jr. got nine carries, according to Pro Football Network. Jeanty has topped 3.0 yards per carry in two of six games. David Heilman, on the FantasyPros panel, says he hasn’t reached 60 rushing yards since Week 1. Washington was limited Wednesday with foot and back injuries, per the Raiders’ report, so Jeanty could get more work Sunday.
Consensus check: Near-unanimous. St Denis, Heilman and Shaun Ireland on the FantasyPros panel and Pro Football Network all say sell.
Prescription: St Denis and Ireland both name Chase Brown, the back we bought in Week 4. In Free Agent Triage we passed on Washington as a handcuff, and that call stands.
2. J.K. Dobbins, RB, Denver Broncos
Week 7: at ARI | Target return: Michael Wilson or Tucker Kraft
Symptoms: Dobbins ran 17 times for 41 yards and a touchdown against Seattle, and Arizona’s defense made our Defensive Diagnosis this week, so his next box score could look good.
Diagnosis: Shulman has him at 3.33 yards per carry on 81 attempts with nine targets, and Ed Birdsall notes 2.4 yards per carry against Seattle, both in the FantasyPros panel. Denver designated rookie Jonah Coleman to return from injured reserve, and he practiced in full Wednesday, according to DenverBroncos.com. Birdsall expects a three-man committee.
Consensus check: Backed by Shulman and Birdsall at FantasyPros.
Prescription: Shulman suggests Michael Wilson or Kraft, and Birdsall suggests Marvin Harrison Jr. If no deal comes before Sunday, start him against Arizona and shop him Monday.
3. Isaiah Likely, TE, New York Giants
Week 7: at HOU | Target return: Jeremiyah Love or Jameson Williams
Symptoms: Likely has 24 catches for 259 yards and three touchdowns on 36 targets over the last three weeks, according to Pat Fitzmaurice in the FantasyPros panel.
Diagnosis: John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston and named J.J. McCarthy the starter for Houston, per NFL.com. Fitzmaurice calls the quarterback change the reason to sell.
Consensus check: Split. Joshua Poniatowski’s early trade targets call him a PPR buy, citing 9.5 targets a game and an 80% slot alignment.
Prescription: The Giants are off in Week 8, per Free Agent Triage, so sell before Sunday. In PPR, hold out for a better return.
4. Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Week 7: at ATL | Target return: Jared Goff or Jordan Love plus a starter
Symptoms: Purdy is the QB3 at 22.7 points per game, according to Trelles-Heard in the FantasyPros panel.
Diagnosis: Mike Evans left Monday’s game in the second quarter and did not practice Wednesday with rib and Achilles injuries, and Deebo Samuel also sat out with a hamstring injury, per 49ers Webzone.
Consensus check: Thin. Trelles-Heard is the column that lists him this week.
Prescription: We said sell in Week 4, and he kept producing. Trelles-Heard’s price of Goff or Love plus a running back or receiver gets you a starter at both spots.
5. Tyler Shough, QB, New Orleans Saints
Week 7: vs. PIT (Paris) | Target return: C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young
Symptoms: Shough threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another against the Giants, his fourth game with at least 22 fantasy points, according to Pro Football Network.
Diagnosis: One week earlier he threw for 96 yards and two interceptions against Minnesota. He is playing with broken bones in his non-throwing hand, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter via NBC Sports, which reports he handed off right-handed against the Vikings. He practiced in full Wednesday, according to Steelers Depot. New Orleans has its bye in Week 8.
Consensus check: Split. Pro Football Network says sell. 4for4 would trade Matthew Stafford for him straight up.
Prescription: Sell before the Paris game, while his last box score is the three-touchdown one.
Where the Doctor Disagrees
A.J. Brown, WR, Patriots: Pro Football Network says sell at 75 cents on the dollar after he caught three of 10 targets for 27 yards in his return from a high-ankle sprain. We side with Kyle Zeigler on the FantasyPros panel and Fantasy Six Pack, who both say buy. He was limited early in the week, per NFL.com, but his ankle was off New England’s final report, according to Patriots.com. He plays tonight, so the deal has to close before 5:15 p.m. Pacific.
Puka Nacua, WR, Rams: Ocho, on the FantasyPros panel, says sell and would take CeeDee Lamb straight up. Davante Adams is headed to injured reserve, per Raiders Wire via Yahoo Sports, and 4for4 counts fewer than 33 combined fantasy points this season for Konata Mumpfield and Tutu Atwell. We named Nacua a start against Las Vegas in Defensive Diagnosis. Hold him unless someone offers Lamb.
Matthew Stafford, QB, Rams: 4for4 would swap Stafford for Tyler Shough. Stafford averages 41.5 pass attempts a game, per 4for4. Shough is our No. 5 sell. Keep Stafford.
